Angel Stadium events to attend before baseball season begins

Before the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim begin their 2015 season, there are several events taking place at the stadium you won’t want to miss. Upcoming Angel Stadium events include the super charged Monster Jam and Supercross competitions.

AMA Supercross

AMA Supercross is all about motorcycles. Each year, the season kicks off in Anaheim with three events in January at the Angels Stadium. This year’s events will be held Jan. 3, 17 and 31.

The term Supercross combines the concepts of the Superbowl and Motocross and draws elite riders from around the world. The AMA Supercross racing series takes place on a man-made course constructed in stadiums across North America, however the racing events were inspired by events held for years in the rural countryside.

The upcoming Angel Stadium events will include riders racing high-powered motorcycles on a dirt course. They must complete high jumps and cut tight corners as they run 20 laps on the course. This year, catch the world’s top Supercross riders Ryan Villopoto, James Stewart, Chad Reed, Ryan Dungey and more vie for the Supercross title.

Monster Jam

Monster Jam is all about trucks — big trucks with big wheels. Each Monster Jam show combines racing, showmanship, mind-boggling stunts and a lot of fan interaction. Monster Jam Angel Stadium events will be held Jan. 10, 24 and Feb. 7.

Did you know most Monster Jam trucks have the driver seated in the center so drivers can see better and distribute weight better in the truck? Did you know Monster Jam truck tires are custom made and sit 66 inches high and 43 inches wide?

A couple of the famous Monster Jam trucks on the tour include Grave Digger, an eerie green truck with ghosts painted on the sides and red headlights, and Max-D, a truck that is known for completing some of the most breathtaking freestyle moves – think backflip.

A backflip in a Monster truck is an amazing feat for a driver that requires incredible skill. Not to mention the trucks stand 12 feet tall and 12 feet wide and weigh about 10,000 pounds, which makes the tricks and stunts all the more mind-blowing.

In addition to the show itself, each Monster Jam event includes a chance for fans to meet the stars of the show with a pre-show Party in the Pits and post-show autograph sessions. It is said the stars of Monster Jam will stay until the last autograph is signed.

If you plan to attend a Monster Jam event, be sure to pack your camera and some ear protection for the kids. Ear muffs and ear plugs are also for sale at the merchandise stands during the event.

Angels Stadium Stats

The stadium first opened as Anaheim Stadium in 1966. The Angel Stadium underwent a major renovation from 1996-1998 that cost $100 million. At that time the facility was known as Edison Internional Field of Anaheim. In 2003 the stadium was renamed Angel Stadium of Anaheim and boasts nearly 45,050 seats for the Anaheim Angels.

When the Angels aren’t playing, the stadium is used for a variety of events year-round. In addition to Monster Jam and Supercross, the stadium is also a hot spot for concerts.
