What is a Hidden Mickey?
Disney
engineers, called Imagineers, first began hiding silhouette images of Mickey at
various places around the park as an inside joke. This soon became a tradition
and finding them became very popular among Disney enthusiasts. Hidden Mickeys include
complete and partial images.
How to look for Hidden Mickeys at Disneyland
Before we point
out 5 Hidden Mickeys at Disneyland to look for, we’ll offer a few tips on how
to find them.
The most
common image you’ll find is three correctly proportioned circles that are
either connecting or intersecting. These form the “Classic Mickey” silhouette.
Hidden
Mickeys are often in plain sight and are part of a design or accent.
Keep an open
mind and begin looking as soon as you arrive. Look on
sidewalks, buildings, in the landscaping. Look for upside down Mickeys, as well as images disguised in patterns, textures and colors. Hidden Mickeys are down low, up high and everywhere in between.
Not sure? Ask a Cast Member. They will at least give you a few hints to point you in the right direction while not taking the fun out of finding them yourself.

Peter Pan’s Flight in Fantasyland has always been a
popular ride since Disneyland opened in 1955. You’ll find several Hidden
Mickeys in the waiting area, as well as on the ride itself. Take a close look
at the bear that sits in a window above the attraction entrance. You’ll find
the bear’s paws contain an image of Mickey. Once you are on the ride,
you’ll have to look quickly to notice a silhouette of Mickey in a window above
the clock face on the backside of Big Ben.

While the Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
attraction is intense, you can still find several Hidden Mickeys on this ride.
Look for classic silhouettes on the Forbidden Eye and on an oil lamp in a cargo
truck. One of the Hidden Mickeys on this attraction is unconventional, but
there nonetheless. Look for two identical glyphs carved into one of the walls in
the main queue that spell MM, which of course stands for Mickey Mouse.
Big Thunder Ranch in Frontierland offers several
Hidden Mickeys to be found. Bridles, reigns and saddle straps in the Big
Thunder Ranch House are adorned with Mickey logos. Looking for a Hidden Mickey
in a pile of horseshoes is a bit like finding a needle in a haystack, but with
a bit of persistence it can be done! In the petting zoo area, look for a wooden
sink with a Hidden Mickey underneath one of the soap dispensers.
The Pirates of the Caribbean ride in New
Orleans Square features several Hidden Mickeys, as well. Look for images on a
lock on one of the treasure chests and in shell formations on a beach. You’ll
also find one on a brick wall, an image created by “canon fire” from the Wicked
Wench.
These are
just a few of the Hidden Mickeys at Disneyland. Have fun finding these and
more!
